Kate's philosophy towards dressage involves teaching the horse to react properly to the lightest of aids, while using the training scale to bring the horse through the levels to develop properly over time, while also teaching the rider why you use these exercises to build a happy athlete and partner.
About Kate Peikert
With her love of horses beginning at the young age of 5, it was only natural that one day she would become a horse trainer. Her mother worked at a dressage barn and since Kate was home schooled for several years she spent her days riding her horse, practicing her "shoulder ins" and "half passes" (not knowing this would one day be her career) and helping her Mom at the barn and at dressage shows. Kate continued in dressage until she was a teenager when she started riding Hunter/Jumpers. This decision led to Kate moving to New Jersey for a job working under Olympic rider Anne Kursinski. Kate's Mom had suffered a tragic accident and when her condition worsened, Kate returned to California to be with her and help her family.
Although Kate had been involved with various riding disciplines, she truly wanted to have a lifetime career in dressage. In 2009 Kate began working as an assistant trainer with Meg Hammond. This is where she met her next horse Nathan, a Dutch Warmblood. When Meg moved to Europe to continue her education, Kate began working for Kim McGrath. Kate then began competing with Nathan through the Prix St George and was schooling the Intermediate 1, when Nathan unexpectedly passed away. She is currently searching for her next horse to train and compete.
In 2013 Kate started her own training business, Peikert Performance Horses. Kate is a serious and dedicated rider/trainer with high aspirations. Her experience allows her to offer a tailored training program to help you meet your goals. With her keen feel and understanding she is able to take difficult horses and turn them into successful dressage partners. Kate is accepting all horses for sale and training, from starting a young horse to refining an FEI horse.
Full or partial training, lessons, clinics, coaching and/or competing your horse at shows and a sales program. School horses are available and haul-ins are welcome. Set up an appointment now to meet Kate, discuss your goals and make a plan to achieve them.
